Anyone ever heard of this thing... it looks pretty sweet.  My friend bought one off ebay and put in his Viper.  I was just burning CDs for my Alpine CD/mp3 player and realized I still need 8+ CDs for all my mp3s.  It holds a laptop harddrive so you can put several thousand mp3s on it and forget about CDs.  The docking station mounts in your car and then you can just pull out the headunit and it has a port in the back to hook into your computer (might be USB).  Software is upgradeable, I think.  Not sure about the tuner, but I know it's not an internal tuner, probably external like the old style Alpine CD players.  They quit making them years ago because they cost over a grand, but now they can be found for $300-400.

Seems really cool, but a 40G pod seems easier.

Yea, I thought about an ipod in an input to my CD player, but I sure would like to play with this thing.  That and I don't have an ipod... and don't plan on getting one.  This empeg player is infinitely upgradeable since it runs off software that can be uploaded.  Supposedly it's capable of some GPS functions (not sure what GPS unit you would use) and I was reading about people making it XM/Sirius ready.  I guess it is a software hack and I actually found a link to a Sirius tuner that someone makes that it compatible with it and with CarPCs.  I probably won't get one.... at least not for the time being, since I want to do heads first.  But I want one sooo bad.

That's pretty pimp, yo.  That MSRP makes my balls shrivel up, though.  Maybe we can talk someone into getting one of those.  Maybe one of those LS1 guys with all the money?
Think about this.  I can't keep a CD player with a flipdown face for more than a couple of years.... something always goes out.  On my last one, the buttons stopped working because of bad electrical contacts to the face, the previous one was motorized and that one went to shit.  I would just die if I spent $2000 on that thing and stuff quit working on it.  I guess that's why I'll never own one, that and the 2k price tag.

Oh well, I bought one anyway. Muhahaha!  Maybe if I'd stop buying crap I really don't need, I could finally build my engine.   Somebody slap me! :alcoholic:

Yea, I did get the RioCar empeg player.  The guy I got it from sold it 'AS IS," so it probably won't work.  He said one of the audio channels was not working, so he had a new radio installed and the installers determined that it was his amp channel that had failed.  But since the empeg player was already out, so he could not confirm it by testing the empeg player.  If it doesn't work, then there is a repair station I can send it to...... seems like I read about a common problem is with loose connections in the output jacks or something.  No tuner was included, but I could buy one or just buy a Sirius tuner box for it and control either one through the empeg player.
I did read about people trying to run OBD monitoring/diagnostics through it which would be cool.  I already have a laptop and datacable to log, but it would still be cool to check codes and monitor through the empeg player.

Coolness, installed it in the car yet?

You should come out to the next monthly meet so we can see it in action

Nope, since it's preamp only, I'm gonna need a 4 channel amp.  I dug through my box of old amps and I only have one 4 channel and it was a nice one, but if I remember correctly, one of the channels doesn't work.  I'll have to check and see about the monthly meet.  Hopefully I'll have some new tires soon so I can trust this thing to get me to Austin and back.

I got a 4-ch amp if you need. I'm not gonna be using it. 4x100W, is that enough for ya?
