OK, I'm gonna put a new 305 back in my vert, a medum cam, dont konw what i'm going to do about heads yet.. possably bigger intake and TBI. Here is my qustions....

How do you "Tune" a car? Silly qustion maby. but honestly asided from getting it to run and maby adjusting the jets on a Carb i have no idea how this is done on TBI or TPI. since i'm running TBI, and want to stay TBI so i dont have to swtich over compuers and all of that jazz. I was wondering if anyone knows how to "Tune" them.. what is involved and how good can you really make them run ? any and all information onthis woudl be helpfull as it will help deturmin what i'm going to end up doing to my motor down the road. Thanks.

Thirdgen.org has alot of good info for TBI engine upgrades.
To tune a TBI you need to get a chip burned Theres someone who does them pretty close to town i just dont remember..ill try to find out. Or i believe someone on here has the stuff to tune chips and shit. What type of heads and intake were you thinking..and if you get too powerful you can upgrade to either a 5.7 tbi unit or a 454 tbi unit would be the best.

Several folks on the board have the equipment to tune your car. It involves modification of the lookup tables on the PROM to accommodate any modifications you have made that increase/decrease the engine's volumetric efficiency.

A wide-band O2 sensor and a data logger will give you the information you need to tune effectively. Failing that, you can do what most do and just turn everything up and act like you tuned. ;-)

Where would one be able to find the lookup tables?

I don't know about Randy, but I'm probably going to stick with the stock heads and just add an LT1 cam, and do all the ultimate TBI mods on TGO.

Another question....I was told I needed a UV light to erase my chip so it can reburned since I changed from auto to manual trans. Where do I get this UV light? Would a UVB heat lamp from the pet store work?

I have not decided What heads or intake or TB to use yet. I was actuly considering going with Vortec but I dont know enough about it all yet to make any desions yet. IF at all possable i'd like to stick with the 305 and still make an attempt at staying at or above 20MPG... thats my only reason for not swtiching over to the 350, simpy fule milage. I just want a good Strong motor that will Run a ALONG time. I dont wanna do the repair/rebuild/replace thing on this car every wekend to keep it running. Only thing i'm looking to do with this motor that its lackin now, is put in a slightly more beefy cam. Nothing stuipdly redicouls but a Medium cam woudl probly give me the push from that engin i'm looking for. Anyting woudl be better than that Flat NO lobe having rod they put in as a stock cam. ughlaugh.gif I'm still doing the research to find out more stuff on this.. If it looks like i'm going to go way below 20 mpg. then i'm proby just going to end up leaving it all stock. and settling with that. This is why i was wondering about Tuneing.. I dont knwo how much MPG you can squese out of one of these TBI's and how much you can tune them and all that.
