Lending a Hand

Hey there ATGO.... Long time no chat...

Wanted to invite anyone that might be interested to a track trip at San Antonio Raceway. Me and a few friends are going to try to make a Test and Tune night at SAR on Friday Jan 22nd weather permitting.

I just finished a complete re-wire of my old junker 79 TA and my buddy Mike wants to get a few more laps on the little small block in his thirdgen Camaro before it comes down for a big block transplant.

http://www.sanantonioraceway.com for directions. Its 94 miles from my house in Pflugerville to the track if I take the toll road.

We usually stop at the Taco Cabana in Sequin after the track to chat and eat then everyone heads there own way home from there.

Come on out and have some fun. No car is to slow to have fun. (run slower than 17.00 and the announcer might poke at ya a little but it is all in the name of fun).

Gates open at 6:00 PM
Lanes open at 6:30 PM
Lanes close at 11:00 PM

Yancy

Then load that car up and come on. I will obviously be using my trailer for this trip but my offer still stands to haul your car to SAR and back for ya some day if you want so you can run it and not fear of issues preventing the drive home.

Heck I pass real close to your parents house on the way there and Back I would be more than happy to pick ya up and you can ride with me if you want. I will be leaving from work in Taylor and just taking the troll road from Hutto all the way to I35.

If anybody has a big helmet I could borrow, I might bring my car.
(the rules mandate helmets for drivers in convertibles)
Otherwise, I'll just ride with somebody down there and spectate/film/wrench, whatever is needed.

Yancy, good to hear from ya again, it's been a LONG time!

Steven, do you still have the ATGO coupon for free admission to the track? If so, you won't be paying to get in. wink.gif

God I would love to go down there and see what times my car can run now that I finally got most of the tuning/exhaust/motor bugs out. Not sure if this 10 bolt would live though LOL

I'll be driving the Camaro home today, maybe drive it around a bit the next few days and see how it feels. If all is good, I'll bring it down to the track and run a couple street tire slow runs to see how it shakes down. I want to be able to drive it back lol.gif

Yeah, I am wondering if my car would make the runs and then back without breaking the 10 bolt or something else. The power scares me too, it's not a "fast" car, but the most powerful car i've driven AND my first time to the track. Do they allow you to race alone?

Well, I'm pretty sure I won't be taking my car down the track, I think I may have hurt the transmission last time I was playing with Lou, it is really hard to get out of 2nd gear, and thats assuming I can get it into that gear, seems like it won't engage 2nd unless the car is stopped. Can't launch in 2nd if I can't get back out of 2nd to hit third.

Clutch pedal is still soft, so I'm going to bleed it some more and see if I can get the clutch stiffened up, maybe its just not disengaging all the way causing problems with 2nd, but all the other gears are fine dunno.gif

Also need to inspect it :\ and figure out how to get gas into the tank... I was only able to get 3 gallons in before it started spitting gas all over the place.

Dang, sorry to hear, Steven.
You've just had bad luck lately. You had to cut&weld the clutch master rod, your 2nd gear is probably gone, the fuel tank won't accept fuel .... sounds like a Chevy, alright!! lol.gif
Why don't you just trade it for your sister's Ford. Hers drives and it makes easily 500 horses. Just a thought. dunno.gif

305? Never, that's a Cheby, they can't even get out of their way.
But the 302 is a strong beast. An upgraded 302 can easily produce 250+. Supercharge it and it will blow the hood off of a Corvette. smile.gif

Anyway, fix your s**t, we're taking you to the track and that's final. lol.gif

Seriously, I dont think its going to go down the track, I'm 95% sure that 2nd is damaged. I'll let you know once I rebleed it (bleeding a 4th gen master is such a PITA)

Dang, sorry to hear about the trouble.
I'd talk to Tom on AFB (bugsquasher), he rebuilds T56's and T5's for fun.

WOW. Love to see the activity in this thread.

Lou, Ya it has been awhile. get something to wrap around that big head of yours and come on.

Steven, Sorry to hear you are still debugging you ride. GET THAT THING FIXED AND COME RUN. Set some good 3rd gen times.

Elementaltoad. There alwasy has to be a first time. All car guys and gals need to take a pass or two. Cruise on down and take a few easy passes. Treat it like a short onramp to the interstate. I would be happy to explain some of the basics to ya. On a Test and Tune if you tell them you are doing your first run or testing new combo they will usually stop the other lane and let you run solo. If you mess up really bad they will talk to you, You screw up real bad again they will talk to you a little more and a little louder. Screw up again and they will ask you to leave. I have only seen one person asked to leave. He was told to back out and let the other drive solo. He ran anyway and HIT the other car at the turn off at the end of the track. If you are brighter than that guy you are not going to have any issues.

Lou. Dont be so fast to say all 305s are slow. I can show you a 307 Chevy (bored 305) that makes a dyno proven 927 HP at 9200 RPM. NHRA Comp elimenator allows weight breaks for less cube's. http://glennsmachine.com/performanceengine.html New heads being built right now flow better and should add a few horses.

Steven. Good luck I hope the bleeding fixes the issue then I hope the BLEEDING STOPS........ seriously. Fix that thing and come earn some 3rd gen respect....

The 3rd gen Camaro at the track with me will be running 9.20. Tell the 4th gen boys to come on after it.

If I can get my old school junker to complete a pass I PRAY to see high 11.s on motor and mid 10s on bottle. But it has been 10 months since I completed a good pass. Last time at the track in OCT I did not back the car off the trailer. Broke in transit. that just sux.... Hope I have all the demons remove for this trip.

I'm certainly not that dense LOL, I am just a bit nervous, it is a new combo so I may see if I can run solo even if it means waiting longer. It will just be my first time and GOOD combos using the same parts as mine produce 380-410rwhp, not to mention i'm on all stock suspension and street tires. Big power + New racer = anxiety lol
